I have this very old down handed Dell Latitude c640 that I use mostly for surfing, chatting and testing Ubuntu with.
- It's battery lasts about ten minutes.
- Windows login screen has burned to the middle of the screen (sic).
- It has Danish keyboard and I'm Finnish!
- Only 256Mb of RAM
- It gets hot, so it's nasty to use on my lap, that is if I want ever to get kids.
- Only one USB port
- It has an Windows sticker on the bottom of it, so, I could install Windows legally in it if I'd want to. (but I do not have the cd's that came with it.
- WiFi, altho old, it works!
- I have two power adapters and a docking station for it.
- DVD-player, always a nice to have feature as a backup for watching movies
I've been having some problems with the machine and Ubuntu recently. Lets just say that it was a big part why I started my blog.
Anyways, I got for a while an bluetooth GPS receiver from work to play with. I first tested it with my friend on his phone, and it worked, but since he had no map data, it was a bit boring.
I've had bad experiences with my usb bluetooth dongle in the past with kubuntu, but for some weird reason I chose to test it today with ubuntu. I found a nice tutorial and everything worked at a first try.
For once I had no problems what so ever and fast I got the Dell to read the USB-bluetooth-adapter and it connected to the BT GPS. I was able to get GpsDrive working and saw the location on a proper map. Oh joy :)
I'm writing this post in my kitchen, where the GPS signal is strongest. I have Amarok playing an webradio with nice tunes on the background trough wlan and I'm happy with the computer and linux. First time for a very long time.
